Making a tax-deductible donation to The Women’s Center/Harbor House can be directed to a host of causes. You may choose to make an in-kind donation, donate to our Annual Fund to support our current programs and services or our Harbor House Campaign. Below is a more detailed account of the Harbor House Campaign. Please keep in mind that you may always make an unrestricted fund donation which will be used to meet the most critical needs of our organization at the time of your donation.

We are currently raising $400,000 for the new Harbor House domestic violence shelter. This project will allow us to allocate funds to our programs, bringing our organization up to the next level of service provision. The innovations provided through the purchase and renovation of the new shelter is targeted efforts that our clients and this community have indicated as desired key service delivery advancements.

  • Increase in the number of families that are able to stay at the shelter and gain full access to services. The increase in space allows the Women’s Center to reduce the frequency at which families must be sheltered off site due to overcrowding.

  • The previous shelter was so small that the professional and volunteer staff shared the living space with clients. That meant that clients were always in contact with staff and did not have any real down time to process and reflect. The new shelter location is large enough that the staff can be in a separate but very accessible space.

  • Increase access to informal networks. In times of crisis, we often turn to our families and close friends for support. Imagine if you were isolated to a location where there were significant barriers to accessing your closest network of support. The public location of the new shelter is much more facilitative in connecting women and children to this important network.

  • Increase access to additional service providers. The public location allows the Women’s Center to forge stronger partnerships with other key social service providers. This will increase service provision to our clients by making additional services more accessible.

To support this campaign you may make a cash donation today online, or make a larger planned gift over a period of time. Regardless of whether or not you are donating today, we urge you to make an appointment with our Development Officer to tour our new shelter and discuss your giving options in greater detail. This will allow us to better match your philanthropic interests to our needs. Please contact Hannah Mongiat at hannah.evelyn@gmail.com or 906-361-0536.

If stopping violence against women and children in our community is important to you, please consider making a donation. Your generosity could save a life.
